Manchester United need a new number nine this summer and this is one of the worst kept secrets of the summer transfer window.
Despite the need for a new striker, it feels like the Red Devils are yet to narrow down on their preferred target.
News – Man Utd line up tactical move to sign £26m-£30m play breaker – Report
There have been many names linked with the Red Devils. Among them is Nicolas Jackson, the Chelsea striker, who could be available to leave the London club this summer.
He had been reported to be available for around £60.5m this summer.
Now, as per an exclusive from Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Nicolas Jackson is keen on securing the move to Manchester United.
Chelsea signed Joao Pedro and Liam Delap this summer and may no longer have a place for the Senegalese striker.
Jackson was signed a couple of seasons ago from Villarreal for around £31.8m. His couple of seasons in England have been a mixed bag, to say the least and although he seems to have adapted to the country, things haven’t always been consistent.
The 24-year-old number nine has a contract with the Blues until 2033. That is a long-term deal, although one would argue that it is more because of Chelsea’s desire to bend FFP rules rather than something that was handed on merit.
Daily Mail have reported that Chelsea want £100m to sell Jackson this summer. With all due respect to the Senegalese striker, that is a frankly outlandish fee that is definitely not something Manchester United should even be considering paying.
The number nine that Man Utd need this season is someone who is clinical in front of goal. Jackson’s ball-striking is quite average and he needs to become a more consistent finisher when it comes to guilt-edge chances.
Man Utd should avoid trying to sign Jackson this summer, unless he is available for a very attainable fee.
There are other options out in the market and let’s wait and see who Christopher Vivell & co. eventually go for this transfer window.
