When Ruben Amorim was appointed as Manchester United manager, it was pretty obvious that a number of players from his former club Sporting CP would be linked with a transfer to the English club and that is proving to be true.
This was mainly due to two reasons – Erik ten Hag had done this continually during his time as Red Devils manager and had gotten the fans used to it and also the fact that Sporting CP has one of the most talented young squads in Europe.
News – JN – Man Utd move not ruled out to sign £80m star in coming weeks
Although all the clamor has been around Viktor Gyokeres so far, as per A Bola (press image at the end), Man Utd are interested in signing teenage starlet, Geovany Quenda from the Lions.
Quenda featured extensively for Amorim during their time at Sporting and understand exactly what it takes to play in the wing-back role in the Portuguese tactician’s 3-4-3 system. Despite being a left-footed player, he has often been used on either flank.
The 17-year-old has a contract with the Portuguese club until 2027 and is said to have a release clause of around £83m (100 million euros).
However, A Bola adds that Sporting CP are willing to negotiate and part ways with him for a fee of £49.8m (60 million euros).
One of the most talented young players coming through Portugal, Quenda is tipped to reach great heights in his career. However, one wonders if Man Utd can afford to spend this kind of money on a teenager.
One positive here is that if Amorim wants Quenda at Man Utd, he will know exactly how to get the best out of the player.
Let’s wait and see if the club will sanction a transfer for the teenager and only time will tell how it plays out.
