Man Utd now want to sign 27-year-old to solve conundrum – Report

Old Trafford night

After parting ways with David de Gea and Dean Henderson, Manchester United decided to revamp the goalkeeping department by signing Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir ahead of last season.

The former Ajax shot-stopper has been the first-choice option for the Red Devils but has continued to make high-profile errors every now and then.

On the other hand, Bayindir hasn’t been able to push the Cameroonian for the first-team spot but has started looking more solid in recent games.

Now, The Independent say that Man Utd want to sign a new goalkeeper and hold a long-standing interest in Borussia Dortmund star Gregor Kobel. The German giants don’t want to let their star man leave in mid-season and if they change their stance next summer then United could make a move for him.

However, Chelsea are also in this race as they are looking for an upgrade to Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen.

The report claim Ruben Amorim is prioritising strengthening other areas of the squad at the moment so the Blues could get a clear pathway to seal the Swiss international’s service.

The goalkeeper still has three and a half years left in his current contract so Dortmund are in a solid position to demand a big fee for him.

Kobel guided Dortmund to reach the final of the Champions League last term, keeping six clean-sheets with an 82% saving rate in 12 matches.

However, he hasn’t been able to replicate the same performance thus far this season, keeping only three clean-sheets with a 59% saving rate in 17 Bundesliga appearances.

In your view, should Man Utd lure Kobel to strengthen the goalkeeping department?
