Manchester United don’t have long to go before pre-season begins for the 2024/25 season. Other clubs around the world have already begun preparations and Liverpool have already played their first game in preparation for the upcoming season. Despite this, the Red Devils still have a lot of work to do.
The only significant signing the English club have made so far is Matheus Cunha from Wolves. Man Utd have also confirmed the signing of Diego Leon, a talented young defender.

However, there has been no movement in terms of exits and things have been progressing very slowly even in terms of reinforcements.
Of course, there might be work going on behind the scenes that the outside world might not be aware of. Now, as per Caught Offside, Manchester United are interested in signing talented Barcelona midfield star Marc Casado who Ruben Amorim sees as the perfect alternative to Manuel Ugarte.
Casado was a relatively unknown quantity before the 2024/25 season but enjoyed a brilliant breakthrough campaign under Hansi Flick.
The German coach found himself in a pickle early on in the season with Frenkie de Jong injured, Ilkay Gundogan back at Man City and Marc Bernal suffering an ACL injury but Casado beautifully filled the void.
The Spanish international made rapid strides, eventually earning his first cap for La Roja at the senior level.
Despite suffering an injury that made him miss the last couple of months of the season, one has to say that his 2024/25 season was a massive success, all things considered.
Man Utd signed Manuel Ugarte from PSG for £50.5million at the beginning of the 2024/25 season but has struggled to hit his straps in the Premier League.
Despite showcasing signs of improvement as the season went on, his time at Old Trafford has largely been underwhelming until now and Amorim might be looking to bring in some competition if not make a change.
Thus, it makes sense for Man Utd to be interested in Casado. Earlier this summer, even the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea expressed interest in 21-year-old Barcelona star but the Gunners eventually ended up landing Martin Zubimendi and Norgaard.
It has been mentioned that Casado is also not keen on leaving the Catalan club this summer.
Barcelona are not a club who are known to sell their La Masia starlets, especially after they have made an impact in the first team.
A tenacious tackler who excels at ball-winning, Casado is a profile that the Catalan club need in their squad and Hansi Flick is unlikely to agree to part ways with him this summer.
It remains to be seen if Man Utd still push for the Spaniard or focus their efforts elsewhere.
