The upcoming transfer window is shaping up to be one of Manchester United’s most important in years.

With the squad still bloated by underperformers, the priority is twofold: clear out the deadwood and bring in fresh talent that aligns with Ruben Amorim’s tactical demands.

News – Report – Man Utd have to agree £50m-£60m fee to secure signing

The Portuguese tactician, since his time at Sporting CP, is known to play a very carefully constructed 3-4-2-1 system that needs players possessing very specific abilities.

The midfield and the wing-back positions in particular are very essential to the functionality of this tactical setup.

However, it really doesn’t matter much how the rest of the team plays if there aren’t enough players to score goals on a regular basis.

In this regard, all Man Utd have had this season is Bruno Fernandes and you are literally scratching the barrels if you look any deeper.

Man Utd close to Cunha:

It is no secret now that Man Utd are interested in signing Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha. As per journalist, Valentin Furlan (Goal Brasil), the Red Devils are expected to seal the signature of the player for a fee of around £67.2million and have managed to thwart Arsenal’s late attempt to hijack the transfer.

The journalist has mentioned that Man Utd would be spending around €80m on this transfer, with €74m being the fixed-fee and the rest €6m coming as add-ons.

This is a significant financial commitment that the Red Devils will be making but it would make a lot of sense to get Cunha, at least on paper.

The talented Brazilian has been excellent in the Premier League so far this season and has occupied a similar role to what Amorim would be expecting from one of his two withdrawn forwards in his tactical setup.

Playing behind a target man like Strand Larsen on most occasions, the ex-Atletico Madrid forward has used his creativity to play passes to runners ahead of him but also has the intelligence and spatial awareness to make his way through the box and a good finish to find the back of the net on a regular basis.

Outside the traditional big 6, Cunha has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season and has been key to Wolves’s resurgence after a torrid start to the season. Thus, it makes a lot of sense for Man Utd to try and sign him as he could be a game-changing addition to the attack.

Cunha won’t be the only name through the door this summer, but he might be the most important. After years of hit-and-miss signings, this could be the addition that brings much-needed clarity and creativity to United’s frontline.

Now it’s down to the club to get the deal over the line and give Amorim the tools he needs to rebuild.
